The meat from the sacrifice will be distributed to poor and eligible communities. For many people in developing countries, this is probably their only opportunity to eat meat.
"To every Ummah did we appoint the rites of Sacrifice, that they may celebrate the name of Allah over the sustenance he gave them from animals fit for food." (Quran 22:34)
NB: Livestock used for Qurbani will be chosen according to local custom and availability - goats and cows may be offered instead of sheep.
